Five eyes mental health research and innovation collaboration

During a two-day meeting in Boston, MA the Five Eyes Mental Health Research and Innovation Collaboration (Five Eyes MHRIC) hosted their second annual meeting with the aim of advancing mental health research and treatment for serving military members, Veterans and their families within the Five Eyes countries. With experts from each nation, the 27 members who participated in the November meeting covered five priority research areas: families; pathways to care; suicide: risk and prevention; moral injury; and improving post-traumatic stress disorder treatment.

The Five Eyes MHRIC was created in 2018 by the Phoenix Australia Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health and CIMVHR. The group brings together leaders in research and innovation from the following organizations:

  • Australia: Phoenix Australia Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health
  • Canada: Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research
  • USA: National Center for PTSD; Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, Uniformed Services University; Walter Reed Army Institute of Research
  • New Zealand: Defence Chief of Mental Health
  • United Kingdom: Combat Stress; King’s College London.

Since the meeting, the Five Eyes MHRIC continues to advance the research in these areas with commitments to launch papers on two of the priority areas and hosting their third annual meeting in 2020.
